Zillow Asks HAR for Houston Real Estate Listings Data
The Houston Association of Realtors (HAR) may be a whisker away from providing listings data to real estate valuation site Zillow.com.
HAR Chairman Rob Cook released a statement today:
"Zillow receives four million visitors per month so we would certainly like to have our listings on the site..."
HAR already provides its listings to Realtor.com, Google [as noted in this HRN report], Homes.com and more.
So releasing them to Zillow would not be entirely unique.
Two parts of the deal seem particularly problematic though.
First, what Zillow really lacks is great data for home values in Houston. As we noted in 2006, the Houston home values that Zillow provides are some of the least accurate in the country.
With another defeat of price disclosure in the 2007 Texas legislature, Zillow is not likely to make great data strides on its own.
Noticeably absent from Mr. Cook's statement is any mention of HAR's sales data.
The second problem is much more solvable.
The deal is not done yet and our sources have been telling us about it for months. Mr. Cook wrote, "...we have not been able to come to an agreement at this point."
